Roca optimizes sanitary ware design with simulation

In our new video, Ernest Hernández, Design Director, and Aroa Vivas, CFD Engineer at Roca, explain how simulation is helping their engineering team reduce physical prototypes, speed up decision-making, and create more robust designs from the earliest stages of the project.
Roca had a department with extensive experience in simulation, but it was looking for specific DEM simulation software. For this reason, they turned to ESSS, an Ansys Apex Channel Partner (part of Synopsys), and Ansys Rocky™, a tool specialized in simulating particles that interact with fluids. Thanks to this technology, Roca was able to digitally represent physical phenomena that cannot be directly observed in real tests, such as the internal flow dynamics during a toilet flush.
Aroa Vivas highlights: “We created a digital model using Rocky, which allows us to reach the final part with more confidence, because we directly represent in the simulation what would be the laboratory test. That, physically, is not possible. In the end, during a toilet flush, you can see the water, but you cannot go inside or understand speeds, pressures, or any other physical aspect.”
Ernest Hernández emphasizes how ESSS support allowed Roca to explore solutions that previously required large investments to be physically validated: “Having a strong and reliable external partner is one of the keys.
